The sobada

A sobada, step by step

A Mexican tradition of hands-on massage, for anyone who wants firm pressure and a warm, homelike welcome.

Adelfa learned the sobada in her family. We work with warm oil or lotion, one area at a time, and you say how much pressure. It is a session of care and rest: we do not diagnose, and we make no promises about your health.

  • From 45 to 75 minutes

  • On a table, covered by a sheet

  • Warm oil or lotion, unscented if you prefer

The session

From the first word to the last stroke

  1. 01

    Step 1: We talk

We ask how much pressure you like and which area to avoid, and tell you how we will cover you.

  2. 02

    Step 2: You settle in

We step out while you settle on the table, covered by the sheet.

  3. 03

    Step 3: The sobada

With warm oil or lotion, one area uncovered at a time, with long strokes and firm pressure.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Rest

A few minutes to rest before you get up, and a glass of water if you like.

Good to know

Covered, at your pressure, unhurried

  • Covered by a sheet

Only the area we are working on is uncovered, and it is covered again when we move on.

  • The pressure, your way

A sobada is usually firm, but you decide. Ask for lighter or firmer at any time.

  • Who should ask first

If you are pregnant, unwell or have a health problem, ask your doctor or midwife before booking.

Who does the sobada

Adelfa does the sobadas and takes first visits.

Questions about the sobada

What pressure does a sobada use?

It is usually firm, but you choose it. We ask before we start, and during the session you can ask for lighter or firmer.

Can I come with a family member?

Yes. If you want to come with someone, book a session for two: each person has their own table and sheet.

How often should I come?

Whenever you like. Your therapist can suggest a rhythm after your first visit.
